The goal is to provide access to resources and specialized healthcare services to vulnerable minors and/or those at risk of social exclusion.
Mirem per tu
Over 80 children have benefited from ophthalmological check-ups carried out through the ‘Mirem per tu’ program, run by Fundació Barraquer. We offer care by ophthalmologists and optometrists for children at risk of social exclusion.
At these events, a professional team including physicians and opticians checks the children’s eye health to detect any possible problems with their vision, offering them the chance to get treatment at Centro de Oftalmología Barraquer in Barcelona
Thanks to the awareness-raising campaigns and the sessions at the centers, we can detect any issues and refer them to the right specialist.
Dog-assisted therapy
In 2019 we started, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry of the Institut de Recerca Vall d'Hebron (VHIR) and the CTAC, a pioneering dog-assisted therapy project with the aim of improving the quality of life of children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The results of the research have shown that this type of therapy improves social skills and symptoms such as lack of attention among others, showing a very positive impact on the quality of life of the family environment.
With the aim of improving the social skills of children in vulnerable environments, in 2023 we have started an animal-assisted intervention program in the educational field.
