The main goal of the projects is to have a real impact on the beneficiaries by training and preparing staff. That’s why it’s important for projects to work on a medium to long-term basis. The support we provide means that we can hand project management over to the local population and increase the uptake of the project so they can become self-sufficient.

Our staff is highly specialized and qualified to carry out their work on the projects we run, with the necessary know-how to develop and promote skills locally.

History

2008

The Probitas Foundation was created with the support of the company Grifols SA, the world leader in developing plasma-derived medicines and transfusion diagnosis solutions. The Grifols SA shareholders decided to donate 0.7% of the annual profits toward running the Probitas Foundation.

2009

We started the International Development Program in Haiti, Sierra Leone and in Barcelona (Hospital Sant Joan de Déu).

2010

We launched our first program, the Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI) in Mali, in collaboration with the employees at Grifols SA and other external experts

2012

We created the Child Nutrition support program (RAI), offering grants for free school meals at Elementary schools.

2013

We expanded the Child Nutrition support program (RAI) by incorporating the Healthy Habits project and Summer Programs.

2014

We consolidated our programs, GLI and RAI, by increasing the number of beneficiaries and improving the quality of the projects. We also expanded RAI with the ‘RAI– A Berenar!’ program

2015

We promoted a huge expansion of the RAI program with ‘RAI - Dinem Junts!’ for midle school students and ‘RAI - Agost per a tothom!’ (Summer program)

2016

We opened the first call for International Cooperation Projects in Healthcare.

2018

We align International Cooperation Projects with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations, specifically with goal number 3: Health and Well-Being. The call specializes in projects related to neglected tropical diseases (NTD) and we started a strategic alliance with the WHO to contribute to the objective of controlling and reducing these diseases. We initiated the SIT program (Health, Innovation and Therapies).

2019

We commemorated the Foundation’s 10th anniversary with a celebration and an exhibition that travelled to all of the Grifols centers in Spain and the United States. We started a new line of action to improve opportunities for migrants with the Yakaar program.

2020

We created Twin Families, a fund-raising initiative that pairs families with others in a position of vulnerability in their local area as a response to childhood poverty due to the financial and health crisis caused by the impact of COVID-19. The GLI program had been running for 10 years and it already had a network of 29 laboratories in 12 countries.

2021-23

We set up the third call for International Cooperation Projects focused on NTDs. We promoted local intervention projects to improve mental health and emotional well-being, while also training professionals who work with minors.
