Prioritising mental health at work
Prioritising mental health at work
October 10, 2024
World Mental Health Day, observed annually on the 10th of October, aims to raise awareness of mental health issues worldwide.
The Probitas Foundation is committed to improving the emotional wellbeing of socio-educational professionals, workers who support children, adolescents, and young people in vulnerable situations in our programmes through a preventive approach.
These professionals take on an essential and demanding role in complex environments. As such, it is crucial that they receive the necessary support to maintain their emotional and physical wellbeing, as this enables them to provide quality care to the children and families, as well as prevent burnout. Taking care of the caregivers not only benefits the professionals but also creates a more favourable environment for the children.
Aware of this, one of Probitas' key lines of action is precisely to promote the care and self-care of social intervention professionals, providing training to enhance their reflective capacity. These training programmes, such as "Professionals en Ment" (Professionals in Mind), enable them to make progress in understanding themselves and others, fostering a healthier and more empathetic work environment and strengthening supportive relationships within teams.
At the Marianao Foundation, 20 professionals from different teams have already participated in this training. They affirm that “having cohesive, strong professional teams with good emotional management will positively impact our intervention with children, adolescents, and families, and will therefore also contribute to a positive impact on the emotional management of the participants”.
Publications
Similarly, we consider it essential to work from a preventive approach, either through specific training for caregivers, or through publications such as the "Emotional support guides for adolescents and young people" that Probitas has developed together with Salut Mental Catalunya.
These guides are designed to empower trainers, providing them with tools and resources to better manage the emotional needs of children. They include practical strategies to promote resilience, effective communication, and stress management. The various materials have generated growing interest, and to date, 3,500 printed guides have been distributed, and 20,000 have been downloaded in digital format.
Guides are available in Catalan and/or Spanish. Go to Publications
