‘Dinem Junts!’

In the 2012-2013 academic year, most public schools across Catalonia started running shorter school days, which had a huge social and educational impact on equality, care, and support for teenagers. Inequality has increased outside of teaching hours, mainly among the most vulnerable families.

At the beginning of compulsory Secondary education, these teenagers face more difficulty when it comes to meeting their nutritional needs and gaining access to a nourishing and balanced meal each day since they miss out on the chance to receive free school meals. What’s more, we discovered a real need to protect these young people who spend a lot of time alone at home or out on the streets, with the risks involved, especially at such an important age as adolescence.

In 2015, Probitas started the ‘Dinem Junts!’ Program aimed at teenagers and young people from 11 to 18 from difficult socio-economic backgrounds studying at public middle and high schools in order to cover their needs for food, protection, and educational support.

Over 500  are users of  this social-educational resource every school year.

Now, the program has broadened its scope of action, starting its first project outside of Catalonia in a neighborhood in Huelva, Southern Spain, with high rates of poverty and social exclusion.
