Hospital Sant Joan de Déu

The Probitas Foundation has been working with the Cuídame programme since 2010. In 2018, it funded care for 12 people from low-resource countries, to provide access to complex medical treatments which they would have been unable to receive in their country of origin. Probitas also works with the Palliative Services Unit, which has cared for and accompanied more than 180 families, both in hospital and at home.

Some treatments, such as dentistry, orthodontics, ophthalmology and mental health, are not covered by Spain's public health system. Lack of access to these treatments seriously hinders the development, learning and quality of life of some young people. To address this problem, Fundación Probitas has been working with the Hospital San Juan de Dios since 2010 to provide care for children and young people from low-resource countries, to provide access to complex medical treatments which they would have been unable to receive in their countries of origin.

Cuídame

The beneficiaries of the programme are young people from developing countries such as Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Mexico, Morocco and Senegal, and they receive treatment for complex conditions such as oesophageal stricture due to lye ingestion, blind eye, brachial plexus injury, congenital heart disease, tetralogy of Fallot and mitral insufficiency.

Palliative Paediatric Services

Probitas has also worked with the Palliative Paediatric Services Unit since 2015, to care for children with conditions with a short life expectancy, and to support their family members. This unit provides integrated care, tailored to the young person's situation and that of their family, to support those with chronic conditions, and to help families who have been displaced from their usual environment.
